KEOKUK, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have removed nearly two dozen dogs from the home of a Keokuk man who’s been charged with animal cruelty.

Keokuk police say 69-year-old William Howard faces dozens of counts, including 23 of animal cruelty and one of keeping animals in unsanitary conditions. His attorney didn’t immediately return a call Monday from The Associated Press.

Police say the dogs were found when officers executed a search warrant on Oct. 5.
