HAHNVILLE, La. (AP) - Authorities say a Louisiana State Trooper had to run out of the way as a drunken driver rear-ended his patrol vehicle in St. Charles Parish.

News outlets report the incident happened early Sunday morning on the Bonnet Carre Spillway bridge.

Officials say the trooper was investigating a single-vehicle crash and had pulled over in the left lane with his emergency lights on when he saw a speeding Nissan Altima approaching the crash scene. He then ran out of the way as the car smashed into the back of his patrol vehicle. The trooper wasn’t hurt.

The driver of the Altima, 30-year-old Terrell Guillory, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Upon his release, he was arrested on DWI and reckless operation charges.

It’s unclear whether Guillory has an attorney.
