BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) - A 44-year-old Massachusetts man has pleaded not guilty to charges of raping a female student in the Brockton High School parking lot.

The Brockton Enterprise reports (https://bit.ly/2f6oeFR) that bail was set at $25,000 for Andy Thao, of Leominster, during his arraignment in Brockton District Court on Monday.

Thao’s lawyer said his client denies having sex with his accuser. He said Thao has known the unnamed 19-year-old student since 2014 and that they’ve texted frequently.

Prosecutors said Thao brought the student lunch Thursday afternoon, parked his father’s van with dark tinted windows near the school stadium and raped her in the backseat.

The Enterprise reports Thao is a U.S. citizen and native Hmong speaker. He has four children ranging in age from 12 to 24.
