DETROIT (AP) - A man has been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal hit-and-run of a Detroit police officer.

Steve Guzina of Lincoln Park was charged Monday with numerous crimes related to the death of Myron Jarrett. The officer was assisting a traffic accident investigation when he was struck Friday night and thrown 30 feet.

In court, assistant prosecutor Molly Kettler said Guzina was under the influence of crack cocaine while driving at a high speed past the accident scene.

He heard the charges without a lawyer present and was sent back to jail without bond. A Nov. 18 hearing has been set to determine if the case moves to trial.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says, “Who knows when this will stop?” - a reference to driving while intoxicated.
