CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A 19-year-old Casper man is charged with raping and trying to kill a girl.

Brandtly Bedsaul was arrested on Sept. 28 and charged Monday with first-degree sexual assault and attempted first-degree murder. He did not enter a plea and asked for a public defender.

Natrona County Circuit Court Judge Brian Christensen set Bedsaul’s bail at $1 million.

Court records say the girl was one of several children attending a gathering last Wednesday. Someone noticed she was missing, went outside and saw Bedsaul with his hands around the girl’s neck.

Prosecutors say someone punched and kicked Bedsaul and the victim’s father held him down until police arrived.

The girl was taken to the hospital where doctors intubated her. She was flown to Denver Children’s Hospital for treatment.
