LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) - A man charged in the slaying of a Lawrence man says told investigators the victim robbed him at gunpoint.

The Eagle-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2cUNfWQ ) that 19-year-old Isaiah Tejeda pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder Wednesday in the slaying of 30-year-old Luis Esmurria in the basement of a Lawrence home.

Tejeda told investigators he let Esmurria into his home and the man pointed a gun at him and stole his chain, belt and gold watch. Police say Tejeda told them Esmurria put the gun down and that’s when Tejeda took the gun and shot Esmurria.

Authorities say officers responded to the home Tuesday for reports of a shooting. They found Esmurria suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Lawrence General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
