PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A 31-year-old Providence man has pleaded guilty to federal human sex trafficking charges involving a 14-year-old girl.

Prosecutors say Paul Monteiro lured the girl from a group home in Rhode Island in 2015 to work as a prostitute in New Jersey.

Rhode Island State Police began investigating after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Police tracked the girl to a New Jersey hotel by getting a fix on her cell phone location.

Police say Monteiro had sold the girl for sex using an escort advertisement on the internet.

Monteiro, who has been in custody since his arrest on April 6, 2015, is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 22.
