BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) - A New York man has been indicted on murder charges for a shooting in an upstate city last summer that left one person dead and another wounded.

The Press & Sun-Bulletin of Binghamton reports (https://press.sn/2dwUSkt ) Nicholas Chappell was indicted Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder and assault stemming from the shooting on the city’s west side on Aug. 31.

Police say Chappell used a long gun to fatally shoot 23-year-old David Sanborn, of Whitney Point, and wound 26-year-old Jordan Doolittle, of Windsor.

Authorities haven’t disclosed a motive in the shooting, which occurred at Chappell’s residence. Police say Chappell and Doolittle knew each other, but Sanborn was an innocent bystander.

Chappell is being held in the Broome County Jail pending his arraignment in county court. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.
