ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Why spray dangerous chemicals to kill mosquitoes? The chemicals might harm humans or other animals. My hometown was close to swamps. My community sprayed to control mosquitoes. But that did not seem to work. The mosquito problem finally went away when everyone in the neighborhood got a bug zapper.

Electronic bug zappers don’t need much electricity to kill mosquitoes, so there is little chance of a human or animal being seriously harmed by them. Miami could use wind and solar power to run electronic bug zappers that could be placed in formations to surround and protect humans. Wouldn’t that be a more practical and cost-effective way of protecting Miami and the surrounding communities? Let’s zap Zika.
