Ever hear the one about the medical professional who proclaimed that 80 percent of what medical doctors do is not backed by double-blind, randomized, controlled trials? Unfortunately, it’s no joke. For the uninitiated, these trials are the best way to demonstrate cause and effect. The implication: Medical quackery is alive and well in your doctor’s office. Medical mistakes are the third leading cause of death.

Combine the current state of medicine and a food environment to which the vast majority of people have not genetically adapted, and you are well on your way to mass extinction (“Type 2 diabetes rates increasing among young people, minorities,” Web, April 17). Type 2 diabetes was under control a century ago. The cure was simple: Stop eating sugars and starches and stick to eating real food.

Type 1 diabetes led to an early death a century ago. Today, if you adhere to the medical advice coming from the American Medical Association and the American Dental Association, you may also end up dying early. Both of these organizations advocate a “standard of care” consisting of a high-carbohydrate diet. Why? In order to maintain market share in the food industry.

Basically your health and your child’s health comes down to you. Start comparing notes with other people just like you all over the world who have managed to rid themselves of type 2 diabetes and managed to control type 1 diabetes. That is your only hope.
