CANYON LAKE, Ariz. (AP) - Officials say they are investigating a fatal personal watercraft crash over the weekend on Canyon Lake, the Arizona Republic reports.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says it responded to the crash about 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The sheriff’s office says Victor Figuero III and his brother were riding the watercraft around Elephant Rock at Canyon Lake when the crash took place, the Republic reports.

The sheriff’s office tells the newspaper that Figuero passed his brother on his personal watercraft and was traveling directly in front of him making back-and-forth maneuvers when he lost control.

The sheriff’s office says Figuero’s watercraft turned sideways in front of his brother and was hit. Figuero was thrown into the water.

Figuero was pronounced dead an hour after the accident.
