LOS ANGELES (AP) - An abandoned seal pup that was rescued from the Southern California cliffs has a new home.
Ziggy, an 11-month-old Pacific harbor seal, will have her press debut on Tuesday at the Los Angeles Zoo.
Ziggy was only a day old and still had her umbilical cord attached when she was found stranded near a Dana Point beach last February. She was premature and her mother was nowhere to be found.
The Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach cared for the seal, bottle-feeding her around the clock for two weeks.
Because she spent her early life in captivity, Ziggy couldn’t be released into the wild. The Los Angeles Zoo got the pup last November.
She’s sharing a zoo habitat with three Atlantic harbor seals.
