Maryland junior guard Melo Trimble was named Monday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as one of 10 watch list finalists for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award presented by the College of Holy Cross.

Joining Trimble on the watch list are Nigel Williams-Goss, Gonzaga; Monte Morris, Iowa State; Frank Mason III, Kansas; De’Aaron Fox, Kentucky; Joel Berry II, North Carolina; Dennis Smith, North Carolina State; Lonzo Ball, UCLA; Jalen Brunson, Villanova; and Markelle Fultz, Washington.

Trimble is averaging 17.1 points per game. He has scored in double-figures 19 times this season and passed Derrick Lewis for 17th (1,462) on Maryland’s career scoring list with 13 in a win over Minnesota on Saturday. He is one of only five players in school history with 1,400 points, 350 assists and 100 steals.

The Terrapins moved up to No. 17 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25, also announced Monday. Maryland is 17-2 overall and 7-1 in the Big Ten.

The award is named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtics and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy and has recognize the top point guard in Division I men’s basketball for the past 14 years. A watch list of 20 candidates was created in October and was narrowed to 10 on Monday. The winner will be presented at ESPN’s College Basketball Awards show on April 7 in Los Angeles.
