Russia has long been thought to be providing advanced weapons to Syrian forces in the civil war that has raged for several years. Israel has executed pre-emptive attacks against Syria in the past to prevent the Shia state from obtaining advanced capabilities that could pose an existential threat to the Israeli military of the Jewish state.

Israeli satellites have recently discovered stockpiles of the highly accurate Iskander missile that can be tipped with nuclear warheads inside of Syria. The weapons were discovered after they had to be moved from secret locations due to severe weather in the area, reports the Jerusalem Post.

The weapons were seen by an Eros B Israeli satellite on trucks inside the Syrian air base at Latakia. The Iskander has a range of 500 km and can hit a target with an accuracy of 7 meters.
