ANALYSIS/OPINION:

With the summer produce season in full swing, Corner Bakery Cafe is heading to the farmers market to spruce up its menu for the warm months. And for a limited time, customers can experience the new offerings conjured by the business’ food design program.

At a DMV-area location, with a classic mixed ice tea in hand, I started off my sampling tour with the berry almond Swiss oatmeal. It’s as healthy as it sounds, and a fine way to start off your morning, and startlingly refreshing in conjunction with the sweet toast served alongside the oatmeal itself. Consider this if you’re trying to alter some unhealthy habits in your food intake and/or trying to lose weight.

The pecan salad with focaccia roll is a pleasant mix of savory and sweet, and the bread is both fresh and pleasing to the taste buds. The vinaigrette dressing goes nicely with the greens, as do the blue cheese crumbles.

When it comes to the limited-time chicken bacon sandwich, I’m going to parrot the late, great Harry Caray and say holy cow! It’s a taste sensation whose wondrousness is brought out thanks to the avocado and tomato ingredients. (Mind you, I’m not much of a sliced tomato fan myself, but it really works here.) This is an awesome sandwich for the summer to enjoy by the pool or even on the beach.

For dessert I try the cream cheese brownie, which is honestly more cheese than brownie but a nice meal capper regardless.
