The Nationals had been searching for months for a closer and got one, right at the last minute of the trade deadline.

Washington acquired Brandon Kintzler from the Minnesota Twins on Monday in exchange for left-hander Tyler Watson, according to multiple reports. Kintzler, 32, has spent the last six seasons with the Twins.

This season, Kintzler has a career-best 2.78 ERA and 28 saves in 45 appearances. He was also an All-Star for the first time.

Watson, 20, has spent the season with the Hagerstown Suns, the Nationals’ low-A affiliate. He has a 4.35 ERA in 18 games.

Kintzler is another addition for the Nationals bullpen after Washington traded for Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson from the Oakland Athletics two weeks ago.
