FIRE ISLAND PINES, N.Y. (AP) - Officials say a couple and their two dogs have been rescued after their boat burned and sank near Fire Island in New York.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/2tQxhoz ) reports a 41-year-old man and his 45-year-old wife were wearing life jackets, as were their dogs. The couple lives north of New York City in Newburgh.

The fire occurred on their 30-foot boat near Fire Island Pines on eastern Long Island on Tuesday afternoon.

Suffolk County Police say a 70-year-old Lindenhurst man spotted them and helped the people and dogs onto his boat.

The boat sank about 2 miles off Barrett Beach. No one was hurt.
