LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 49-year-old Las Vegas man charged with murder in the shooting death of another man says it was an accident and he was aiming his gun at someone else.
Police say Shawn Lamont Todriquez told officers that he was trying to return fire on May 3 at a man who accidently shot Todriquez’s girlfriend.
Todriquez says he shot 30-year-old Daniel Heintz in the head as the younger man ran toward him, trying to flee gunfire from a rival drug dealer. The Las Vegas Review-Journal (https://bit.ly/2rJ6g5B ) reports the dealer accidently shot Todriquez’s girlfriend, but she survived.
Heintz died May 5.
Todriquez is charged with murder and illegally possessing a gun.
A message seeking comment from Todriquez’s attorney Roy Nelson was not returned.
Police say the drug dealer involved in the shooting is not in custody.
