It seems that so many in the world disobey God’s Ten Commandments on a regular basis — and in a big way. But just think: If everyone obeyed the Fifth Commandment (“Thou shalt not kill”) we could all live in our homes and walk or ride safely and freely on streets and across bridges anywhere in the world. We could go to and from work safely, as well as shop and worship as we pleased. And if everyone obeyed the Seventh Commandment (“Thou shalt not steal”) there would be no theft, no removal or destruction of personal or public property from homes, markets, workplaces or places of worship.

Sane reasoning suggests that the responsibility rests with each of us to learn, teach and practice the Commandments, whence come self-control and the development of true self-worth. It is essential that “Thou shalt not kill” and “Thou shalt not steal” be particularly prominent in the curricula of all secular and religious education, starting now.
