Man sentenced for attempting to kill his wife, kidnapping

PEARL, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi man found guilty of kidnapping and attempted murder of his wife has been sentenced.

Madison-Rankin District Attorney Michael Guest announced Thursday that Richard Lamar Green was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years.

The Clarion-Ledger reports (https://on.thec-l.com/2smcTaU) Richard and Cathy Green had gotten into an argument at their home in 2014. Green told investigators that he retrieved a machete from his vehicle, forced his wife into the family room, and struck her multiple times with the machete. Police saw that one of the victim’s fingers had been severed during the attack.

Green fled the scene with the couple’s 4-year-old child. An Amber Alert was issued, and the child was found in the vehicle unharmed.
