AUBURN, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania State Police have been investigating the death of an 8-year-old girl who was riding on an all-terrain vehicle driven by her father.

Authorities have yet to release the name of the 38-year-old man, who was also injured in the crash, or his daughter.

Troopers say they were riding in a railroad bed about 9:15 p.m. Saturday when they hit a telephone pole that was laying across the pathway, causing the ATV to flip. Police say the girl and her dad weren’t wearing helmets.

The crash occurred in South Manheim Township, Schuylkill (SKOOL’-kil) County. That’s about 50 miles (80.5 kilometers) northeast of Harrisburg.

The little girl died at the scene. Her father was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital for what police called moderate injuries.
