PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Providence-to-Newport ferry is back in service.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said Monday that service was scheduled to continue on Tuesday. The ferry’s website shows service has resumed.

The ferry was damaged during a trip from Narragansett to Providence last Saturday. Officials say the ferry hit a buoy while trying to avoid another boat.

Officials said no one was hurt.

The ferry was sent to New York for repairs.

Launching last year, the ferry service grew to be so popular that officials extended its service and added trips.
