PASSAIC, N.J. (AP) - Parents and supporters of a local principal packed a New Jersey education board meeting to speak in favor of a principal set to be demoted next month.

For around an hour Tuesday, supporters spoke at the Passaic Board of Education meeting in order to make a case for Corey McKinney as principal.

After his first year as principal of a Passaic elementary school, McKinney was told he would be demoted from his position in July. McKinney tells NorthJersey.com (https://njersy.co/2r4Z27d ) that he doesn’t know where he’ll teach next year.

He says he has not received a statement from the Board of Education regarding the demotion as of Tuesday.

McKinney, before becoming principal, worked as a vice principal for 15 years.
