LAYTON, Utah (AP) - Residents in Layton are complaining about the smell of rotting cabbage coming from a former farm.

City officials say a developer purchased the farmland last year, and with it came the bad crops.

The crops were planted last summer but never harvested. Recently, water from the rotting pile of cabbage worked its way into a nearby subdivision. The smell of rotted food started coming up through residents’ floor drains.

In December, neighbors noticed the farmland started to smell, so they alerted the city.

The developer is now working with the city’s code enforcement division to till the damaged crop in hopes of getting rid of the odor.
