PHOENIX (AP) - The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a 37-year-old Surprise man was sentenced to 16 months in prison for his role in a sexual abuse case when he was a senior correctional officer.

The office says Edward Mendoza pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a ward.

Authorities say he was a corrections officer at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Phoenix supervising the women’s camp when he had sex with an inmate for two months in early 2015.
