PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Officials in Portland, Maine, have once again failed to approve a proposal that would have residents vote on a $64 million bond for renovations to four schools.
City Council members on Monday couldn’t agree on a plan for voters to evaluate and instead postponed action until next week.
The bond would cover renovations for Lyseth, Longfellow, Presumpscot (preh-ZUMP’-skaht) and Reiche elementary schools.

The council must finalize the measure by April 5 to be placed on the June ballot.
Democratic Mayor Ethan Strimling supports the bond. He says the council isn’t planning to meet to discuss the issue.
Three councilors voted against the bond last week. They want the district to seek state funding for two schools that narrowly missed the cutoff in the latest round of funding.
