CLARKDALE, Ariz. (AP) - An injured hiker was rescued after spending a night on a canyon ledge in north-central Arizona after falling about a dozen feet.

A state Department of Public Safety helicopter crew spotted the man in the Sycamore Canyon wilderness area north of Clarkdale early Sunday morning following hours of searching triggered by a call from the 34-year-old hiker’s worried sister.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office says the hiker had left word where he was going Saturday and when he’d be back. His identity wasn’t released.

The Sheriff’s Office says the hiker had back and wrist injuries and wasn’t able to use his cellphone to call for help.

The helicopter crew dropped food, water and a blanket for the hiker to use while waiting to be rescued after daylight.
