DENVER (AP) - Prosecutors have charged a man who shot a police officer in the leg during a disturbance in Denver.

The Denver Post reported Friday https://goo.gl/2qdhVa that 23-year-old Brendan Gerwing was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree assault.

Rookie officer John Allred is recovering from a broken femur after the May 20 shootout with the suicidal man. Police were trying to calm Gerwing and take him into custody when he shot Allred.



Another officer returned fire, hitting Gerwing multiple times and critically wounding him.

Booking documents do not indicate if Gerwing has hired an attorney.
