TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A federal judge in Florida is sentencing a former music professor to more than 17 years in prison after he was convicted of child exploitation crimes.

U.S. District Judge Charlene Honeywell on Friday sentenced Nathan Madsen to prison time followed by lifetime supervised release. Madsen, a 37-year-old former music professor at the University of Tampa, pleaded guilty to the charges in February.

Authorities say Madsen responded to a fake online ad for prostitution services. He wound up meeting and paying an undercover agent $140 to have sex with a 14-year-old girl.

After his arrest, agents searched his apartment and discovered he had been having sexually explicit online conversations with a 16-year-old girl. Authorities say that he persuaded the girl to produce and send him explicit images and videos.
