ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A man has been sentenced in the murder of his father.
WFTV-TV reports (https://at.wftv.com/2qwaAB7 ) Saturday that 24-year-old Cesar Benitez-Hernandez was sentenced to 15 years in prison last week for the 2015 murder of Cesar Benitez-Ferri.
Orlando police say Benitez-Hernandez shot his father following a heated argument. Benitez-Hernandez claimed his father stabbed him but detectives say his story is not consistent with the wounds.
In March, Benitez-Hernandez agreed to a plea deal in which the murder charge would be reduced to manslaughter with a firearm. A month later he changed his mind and sent a handwritten letter saying he wanted to go to trial, but a judge denied the request.
Benitez-Hernandez will get credit for the almost year and a half of jail time he’s served as part of his sentence.
