INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - The mayor of Inglewood, California, says five officers involved in the fatal shooting of a young couple in a parked car a year ago are no longer with the police department.
The Los Angeles Times says (https://lat.ms/2rSKU5w ) Tuesday’s announcement by Mayor James T. Butts marked the end of an internal probe of the slayings of Marquintan Sandlin and Kisha Michael. His statement did not provide additional details of the incident or say whether the officers were fired or had resigned.
The Los Angeles County district attorney is continuing to investigate the Feb. 2016 shooting. Officers fired 20 bullets into the couple as they appeared to be unconscious. Officials said Michael had a handgun in her lap.
The incident stoked protest and calls for greater transparency in the Inglewood Police Department.
