LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Las Cruces police say they’ve arrested a mother after her two young children tested positive for methamphetamine.
Police spokesman Dan Trujillo says 26-year-old Stephanie Silva was arrested on two felony child abuse counts Wednesday.
Trujillo says in a statement that officers called to Silva’s home in April on a domestic dispute call found Silva’s 8-month-old and 2-year-old daughters in the master bedroom. Nearby they found a meth pipe, a baggie with residue and a digital scale. Silva’s boyfriend was gone when officers arrived.
The children were placed in protective custody and they and Silva were tested for drugs. Silva was arrested after the tests for all three came back positive for meth.
She’s being held on $15,000 bond. Online jail records don’t list an attorney who can comment on her case.
