CALVERTON, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a Long Island man has been arraigned on an upgraded attempted murder charge for setting his girlfriend on fire.
The 30-year-old suspect from Calverton is being held without bail. Suffolk County prosecutors say the man attempted to kill his girlfriend on May 17 by pouring a flammable liquid on the tent she was living in and setting it on fire.
Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/2rTOAUr ) the 33-year-old victim survived the attack and was able to identify the suspect. She received treatment at a local hospital.
The tent fire spread to surrounding foliage and caused a brush fire, which was extinguished by local firefighters.
The victim had previously filed a restraining order against the suspect in January 2016.
