MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s archery deer hunting season is approaching.

The two-part hunting season starts next weekend and runs through Nov. 3. The second half of the archery season is in December.

Hunters are allowed to take up to two deer in the two-part season with two archery licenses and only one deer can be a “legal buck,” a deer with at least one antler having two or more points that are one inch (2.5 centimeters) or longer.

The rifle deer hunting season is in November and muzzleloader season follows in early December.

Hunters may take up to three deer a year in a combination of seasons. Only two may be legal bucks, and only one such buck may be taken in each season.
