YORK, Pa. (AP) - A prosecutor says a Pennsylvania police officer was justified in shooting and wounding a man accused of stealing a vehicle and ramming it into a police car.

York County District Attorney Tom Kearney says 30-year-old Terry Diffenderfer, of York Haven, disregarded instructions to exit the vehicle and backed it into a police car, which then struck an officer.

The York City officer fired five shots, injuring Diffenderfer.

The vehicle had been reported stolen on April 29 by a man who said that his shotgun was still inside.

Diffenderfer pleaded guilty earlier this month to charges including aggravated assault.
