That Mike Pompeo may have a problem being confirmed as secretary of State is another example of the usual obstruction by Democrats and the persistent nonsense exhibited by some Republicans.

Mr. Pompeo has outstanding academic records from West Point and Harvard University, and he performed extremely well as a U.S. representative and director of the CIA.

As for the Democrats, lest they forget, Republicans were deferential to Barack Obama’s two controversial attorney general nominees, Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch, and both were confirmed with Republican votes.

As for the one to three Republican senators who find ways to block legislation and confirmations, they are doing the president, the Republican majorities in the House and Senate, our citizens and our country an unacceptable disservice.

Mike Pompeo is a worthy nominee who should receive strong bipartisan support.
