HAMBURG, N.Y. (AP) - Police in western New York say a man has died while kite surfing on Lake Erie.
Hamburg police say they responded to a town beach on Wednesday afternoon following reports of a kite surfer in distress. Police and lifeguards tried to rescue the man but wind took hold of his sail, pushing him out further into the water.
A town water rescue unit responded and recovered the man’s body.
It wasn’t clear whether the man had suffered a medical emergency before the rescue efforts.
His name was not immediately released.
