MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Governor’s Highway Safety Program says state, county and local police will be out patrolling roads for impaired drivers this holiday season.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign runs through Jan. 1

Officials say as of Tuesday Vermont had 54 fatal crashes this year, causing 61 people to die. Of those, 65 percent of people were not wearing a seatbelt and 36 percent of the crashes involved an impaired driver.

Officials say police will also be aggressively enforcing speeding, seatbelt and distracted driving laws.
