VENTURA, Calif. (AP) - The investigation of a fatal crash on U.S. 101 shut down a southbound stretch of the major artery in Southern California for hours during the weekend.

The crash was reported around 4:30 a.m. Sunday in Ventura County near Emma Wood State Beach.

The Ventura County Star reports one person died at the scene and two other people with injuries were taken to a hospital.

Southbound lanes of the freeway were shut down north of the crash site and traffic was detoured onto Pacific Coast Highway until about 11 a.m., causing a lengthy traffic jam.
