HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) - Officials in Hampton, New Hampshire, say they need more time to work on a lawsuit against the state regarding shared costs at Hampton Beach.

The Portsmouth Herald reports the town had set a Jan. 31 deadline for a lawsuit to be filed, but selectmen said Town Attorney Mark Gearreald was given until Feb. 14 to do so.

Town selectmen voted in September to authorize legal action regarding disputed costs and responsibilities at Hampton Beach, a portion of which is a state park. They say an unfair amount of costs has been placed on the town for services like police and fire, while the state collects money from the beach through parking fees and the rooms and meals tax.
