STUART, Fla. (AP) - Florida authorities say a carjacking suspect fleeing from deputies fired at the officers and rammed a patrol car before being arrested.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office reports 25-year-old Juan Carlos Carmenate stole an SUV at gunpoint Friday from a Palm Beach County gas station, firing a gun and narrowly missing one victim.

The suspect drove north into Martin County, followed by a Palm Beach sheriff’s helicopter.

Authorities say Carmenate pointed a gun at Palm Beach county deputies and fired shots at Martin County deputies, striking one car on the driver’s door.

Carmenate then rammed a stopped Martin County patrol car. The stolen SUV became disabled and Carmenate was arrested.

He faces 11 charges, including two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. He was being treated at a hospital. It was not known if he had a lawyer.
