MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) - Delta College is planning a new campus building under a partnership with Dow Chemical and the University of Michigan.

Plans announced Thursday call for an “interdisciplinary innovation and education hub” in downtown Midland in part to promote science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, education.

The project is being supported by $4 million from The Dow Chemical Company Foundation and $2 million from The Dow Corning Foundation. The grants over a three-year period will help build the new Midland facility. Construction could start in fall 2019.

Dow and the University of Michigan also announced the new Andrew N. Liveris Innovation Institute that’s named to honor the legacy of Dow’s longtime chief executive, who is retiring. The Dow Chemical Company Foundation is giving $1.5 million over three years for the effort.
