The University of Maryland’s only basketball postseason hope has come to an end.

The No. 5-seeded Maryland women’s team fell to No. 4 North Carolina State, 74-60, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Terrapins only trailed by six at halftime but fell too far behind in the third quarter, when they were outscored 24-14.

Maryland bowed out of the tournament on the first weekend after starting its season 15-2 and placing second in the Big Ten.

All five NC State starters scored in double figures. Kiara Leslie posted 21 points and 11 rebounds, both game highs.

Off Maryland’s bench, Brianna Fraser scored 17 points and Ieshia Small added 15. Each substitute scored more than any Terrapin starter. Eleanna Christinaki scored five points, Kaila Charles had four and Kristen Confroy went scoreless on 0-for-2 shooting.

Stephanie Jones scored 14 points and led the Terrapins with seven boards.

Maryland went 0-for-5 from 3-point range while NC State made 7-for-14.
