President Trump wasn’t impressed Monday with a DNA test showing there was “strong evidence” that Ms. Warren has Native American DNA.
“Who cares?” Mr. Trump said to reporters at the White House.
The president has consistently ridiculed Ms. Warren as “Pocahontas” for claiming Native American ancestry, falsely in his view, to gain an advantage in her academic career. At a rally this summer, he even envisioned a 2020 debate in which he would offer her $1 million to take a DNA test with a kit that he’d give her.
Asked Monday if he would be donating $1 million to a charity, now that Ms. Warren has taken a DNA test, Mr. Trump replied, “I didn’t say that. You’d better read it again.”
At the campaign rally in July, Mr. Trump said, “Let’s say I’m debating Pocahontas … I’m going to get one of those little kits and in the middle of the debate, when she proclaims she’s of Indian heritage — because her mother said she has high cheekbones, that’s her only evidence … And we will say, ‘I will give you a million dollars, paid for by Trump, to your favorite charity if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian. And we’ll see what she does. I have a feeling she will say no but we will hold it for the debates.”
Mr. Trump said he hopes Ms. Warren decides to run for president.
“I think she’d be very easy [to beat],” he said.
