NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Police Department is disputing a report that some of its officers covered up the 2015 crash of a vehicle in which the mayor was riding.
The Daily News says Democrat Bill de Blasio was in the backseat when a driver changing lanes collided with his vehicle. No one was hurt.
It cites text messages in the mayor’s Executive Protection Unit that said, “no one is to know.”
De Blasio’s Vision Zero initiative seeks to reduce pedestrian and traffic deaths through stricter enforcement.
NYPD spokesman Phillip Walzak says the department determined that it was at fault for the crash.
He says that “shows the exact opposite” of a cover-up.
