ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont prosecutor is disappointed with a sentence imposed on a man who’s a repeat offender for burglary - and was convicted two decades ago of manslaughter.
A judge in Caledonia Superior Court sentenced Shawn Boyd to 14 months to five years in prison on Friday. State’s Attorney Lisa Warren, who sought a sentence of five years to life, tells the Caledonia Record that “the sentence typically gets longer, not shorter” for criminals who repeat the same behavior.
Court records indicate Warren has a criminal record dating to the 1980s. That includes a manslaughter conviction in the death of a 2-year-old boy in Lyndonville.
The latest burglary conviction involved the theft of frozen meat from a nonprofit. The Associated Press was unable to Boyd or his attorney.
