SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Latest on a fatal shooting involving police (all times local):

11:50 a.m.

Salt Lake City police say a man fatally shot by police fired first at officers during an encounter Monday evening at an apartment complex.



Police identified the man killed as 29-year-old Riche Antonio Santiago of Salt Lake City.

According to police, the encounter occurred after police responded to a 911 hang-up call in the area but that additional information on what led to the shooting wasn’t immediately available.

Police said the officers’ body cameras were on during the encounter and that footage will be released in 10 days.

The West Valley Police Department will investigate the incident.

7:15 a.m.

Salt Lake City police say a man is dead after being shot during an encounter with police officers responding to a 911 hang-up call.

Police said the officers fired their weapons but that additional details on what happened during the incident Monday evening at an apartment complex weren’t immediately available.

The dead person’s identity was not released.

Police Sgt. Keith Horrocks said witnesses were being interviewed and that any police body-cam footage that exists will be released within 10 days.
