SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The Sacramento Zoo says a beloved giraffe named Goody has died.
Gudrun - who went by the nickname Goody - was 21 when she euthanized on Tuesday. The zoo says she had declined after getting an abscess on her hoof that was resistant to antibiotics.
Goody was a year old when she moved from Milwaukee to Sacramento with her sister, Skye, in 1999.
The zoo says Goody was a sweet, clever and social giraffe who seemed to enjoy meeting guests and interacting with her keepers.
However, she suffered from a variety of ailments, including arthritis in one leg that changed her walk and caused unusual hoof wear.
She wore a custom-made shoe in recent years to help her move around more comfortably.
