ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque police fatally shot two men during separate incidents a few hours apart, authorities said.
Deputy Police Chief Harold Medina said police fatally shot one man early Tuesday morning during an exchange of gunfire after a home invasion and that another man Monday evening was fatally shot when police responded to an altercation involving a dispute between neighbors.
No officers were injured.
Medina said a gun was found next to the man fatally shot in connection with the dispute with a neighbor. That man was identified Tuesday as Jose Vallejos, 48.
Authorities said the original caller had told emergency dispatchers that a neighbor had pointed a gun at him. At least one officer who responded to the scene opened fire. Vallejos was struck at least once and died at the scene.
Albuquerque police say a multi-agency task force was in the early stages of investigating the shooting.
