TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey state worker was fatally shot Friday on the steps of her Trenton home in a “random act” of gun violence, Gov. Phil Murphy said.
Murphy, a Democrat, said Monday Vernetta McCray worked for the Department of Children and Families for a decade.
He called the shooting a random act over the weekend in a statement, though it’s not clear what led to the shooting.
